As I begin a new year, my heart is full of gratitude. I’ve just learned that I’ve been named the 2025 Communicator of the Year by the National Association of Government Communicators, and I want to take a moment to reflect on what that honor truly means to me.
This recognition isn’t really about me as an individual. It’s about the commitment to honest, transparent, and heartfelt communication that I’ve tried to bring to the Clark County Clerk’s Office. It’s about believing that how we talk to our community matters just as much as what we do for them. And it’s about understanding that every couple who walks through our doors, every resident who contacts our office, every business partner we work with—they all deserve clear, compassionate, respectful communication.
I’ve always believed that communication is a form of service. When I speak to the media about wedding trends in Las Vegas, I’m not just sharing statistics—I’m telling stories about our community. When I write about the initiatives our office has undertaken, I’m trying to help people understand why these programs matter, not just that they exist. When I talk about the importance of preserving wedding history, I’m inviting people to see their own stories reflected in our broader community narrative.
This award also reflects the incredible team around me. My staff members are communicators too. The way they greet visitors, explain processes, handle questions, and support couples through the marriage license process—that’s communication at its finest. They embody what I hope this award represents: a deep commitment to serving with clarity, respect, and genuine care.
As I accept this honor, I’m thinking about what it means for our future. Communication is becoming increasingly important in public service. People want transparency. They want to understand their government, to feel heard, and to know that their Clerk’s office is responsive and engaged. That’s the standard I’m committed to maintaining.
Thank you to the National Association of Government Communicators for this recognition. Thank you to my team, my community, and everyone who’s supported the work we do in Clark County. And thank you to every couple who’s trusted us to be part of their love story. Your stories are what inspire me to keep showing up, communicating with heart, and serving with pride.
