In 2022, we issued our five millionth wedding license for the county since it was founded in 1909. That was a big deal that we decided to celebrate. The Strip went pink, we gave the five millionth couple a big prize and we generated national press. But, more importantly, we realized that it wasn’t the five million licenses, but the five million love stories that was important.
No matter what the outcome of that marriage, they all started with a love story. Since then, I’ve been trying to collect as many of those stories as possible. Were you married here? Your parents? Your siblings, friends or relatives?
Hundreds of celebrities from Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward to Usher and Jennifer Goicoechea, A-list couples and their friends have headed to Vegas for their marriage. Those celebrity weddings are part of our history, but so is every other couple who married here.
Weddings are part of Las Vegas’ DNA and helped turn a dusty frontier town into an international global destination. Weddings are part of the Vegas brand and weddings add a charm to our image that would be much darker without them.
